Chapter IX: Matsuribayashi [Festival orchestra]
Q: Wow, Takano Miyo's childhood sucked.
A: Yep. First she loses her parents, is thrown into an orphanage, somehow manages to escape by the power of luck, coincidence and her incredible memory, only to enter a profession where she becomes the unwitting pawn of unseen government agents...
Q: Who the hell is 'Nomura' anyway?
A: Who knows? She sure is someone who is good at manipulating people, and seems to be in a position of power. We'll likely never get a real explanation for who she is.
Also of note is 'Nomura' is a type of giant jellyfish.
Q: Satoshi was being kept by the Irie institute the entire time?
A: Yes, and no. Apparently, there is some discrepancy between Satoshi's fate and the final answer arc of Higurashi. In the anime version, as seen here, Satoshi is being held in a coma-like state while the doctors continue looking for a cure for Hinamizawa syndrome. In others, Satoshi's fate is left an open question. In this version it's clear that Satoshi killed his aunt and then happened to be 'caught' by Dr. Irie. It provides a good parallel for what might have happened to Keiichi in the Curse-killing chapter.
Q: Why does Takano go for shooting Mion out of all of the kids?
A: Because Mion just took credit as the 'leader' a few minutes ago when they were addressing Okonogi. It's also meant to serve as a parallel to a scene which was only in the game of the Everyone Dies chapter, in which Takano goes to shoot Mion, and rather than acting courageously, she falters and begs for her life before being shot.
Q: What happens to Takano after Tomitake saves her?
A: I'm not sure what the official outcome is, but two possibilities are either she recovers at the Irie institute, or she escapes somehow. What she would do after escaping is open to debate, however.
Q: What was the whole thing with grown-up Rika and loli Takano at the end?
A: The implication is that Rika prevents Takano's parents from dying, perhaps preventing any tragedy from occuring in Hinamizawa at all-- but that's another story.
